Al Marakeb Boat Manufacturing has developed an open-water barrier system that is designed to protect beaches from oil spills, tar and a wide range of other floating debris.
The barrier system sits 70cm above water and 120cm below the surface acting as a buffer to defend the beach from all visually or physically hazardous materials floating towards the beaches.
In addition, the bright orange barrier is extremely visible to boat traffic along the shores. This feature also makes the barrier behave as a line of demarcation that shows boats their limits when sailing close to shore and allows swimmers to feel safe while swimming along shorelines, that are now tar free.
Tar and other floating debris are an unfortunate result of tankers, dhows and other vessels dumping or flushing their systems while out at sea, disregarding the plain and simple fact that these materials will eventually wash up on shorelines in the area.
In Musandam, Al Marakeb has completed the installation of its first barrier system in collaboration with the Six Senses Resort and Spa at Zighy Bay to protect the beach from mainly tar from washing up on their shoreline. Six Senses is a resort that provides their guests with a pure and spectacular 1.2kilometer long beach that is surrounded by mountains and palm trees.
